Let us tell you that the case of felling of trees in Corbett National Park is in the headlines. During the hearing in the division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Alok Kumar Verma, it was said on behalf of the petitioner that the reply presented by the Chief Secretary is misleading.
The petitioner says that the government is not taking action against the culprits in the case. There is no mention of this in the affidavit and the inquiry reports of the Central Empowered Committee, NGT and the state auditor general point fingers at the then Forest Minister Harak Singh Rawat.
In this case, it was alleged that the then Forest Minister posted DFO Kishan Chand at Kalagarh in Corbett against the rules. Not only this, about 6000 trees were cut.
According to the petitioner, generator sets were also installed at Kalagarh. At the same time, it was said on behalf of the government that the petitioner has filed the petition due to political malice.
The petitioner’s advocate has been the officer of former Rajeev Bhartari. Along with this, it was also said on behalf of the government that action has been taken against the guilty officers. On the other hand, seeing the seriousness of the matter, the court asked the government why the entire episode should not be investigated by the CBI. Also, the government has been asked to submit its reply in this matter by September 1.
