The deaths of four members of a family under suspicious circumstances in Bardehi village, under the Hansdiha police station area of Dumka district in Jharkhand, have sparked a sensation in the area. It is feared that this could be a case of mass murder or suicide.
On Sunday morning, villagers discovered the body of a young man lying in a field. They immediately informed the police. When police arrived and searched the house, they discovered the bodies of a woman and two children inside. All three were found with ropes tied around their necks. The deceased include Birendra Manjhi (32), his wife Aarti Kumari (28), and two young children, Rohi (5) and Viraj (3).

Dumka Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Kherwar stated that the exact cause of the incident will only be determined after a detailed investigation.
According to reports, Aarti Kumari had been staying at her parents’ home for a few days. Birendra had brought her and the children home on Saturday. On Sunday morning, when villagers went to the fields, they discovered Birendra’s body, causing panic throughout the village.
The villagers immediately informed the police. A police team arrived at the scene and recovered the three bodies inside the house. Rope marks were clearly visible on their necks. Given the seriousness of the incident, a forensic team and dog squad were also called in.
The team collected necessary samples from the scene. Police say they are questioning family members, relatives, and local villagers to determine the cause of the incident. Currently, the police are thoroughly investigating all aspects, including family disputes, mental stress, and financial circumstances.
