After the Waqf Bill was passed by the Parliament and became a law, protests are being held against it across the country. Students of Alia University in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, took out a protest march in the campus against the Waqf amendment.

After the passing of the Waqf Amendment Act, protests have intensified in many parts of the country. In many cities including Kolkata, Mumbai and Lucknow, the Muslim community and organizations have taken to the streets to protest. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has also made a big announcement regarding this law.
Students’ march in Kolkata
Students took out a strong march against the Waqf Amendment in Kolkata’s Aliya University. In this demonstration from the campus to Circus Crossing, the students raised slogans with placards in their hands.
Shia community’s protest in Lucknow
In Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, after Friday prayers, a demonstration was held in the Imambara area under the leadership of Shia religious leader Kalbe Jawad. There was deep dissatisfaction among the people regarding the Waqf Act. The protesters had placards with slogans written against the law in their hands.
AIMIM demonstration in Mumbai
In Mumbai, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan along with supporters demonstrated against the Waqf Act near Byculla’s Hindustani Mosque. Due to the protest held without permission, the police detained about 60 activists including Pathan.
AIMPLB’s campaign and BJP’s response
AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi has announced to run ‘Waqf Bachao Abhiyan’ from April 11 to July 7. On April 30, Muslims have been appealed to register peaceful protest by switching off the lights of their homes at 9 pm.
On this, BJP leader Mohsin Raza called AIMPLB a toolkit of Congress and said that “Modi ji will bring light to the homes of Muslims.” At the same time, SP leader Fakhrul Hasan Chand called peaceful protest a democratic right.
