Last night, a cloudburst in Tharali of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has caused massive destruction. Tharali town, surrounding villages and markets have suffered heavy damage. Many houses, shops and roads have been destroyed due to heavy rains and debris. Administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue work.

A young girl died

Debris has entered the tehsil premises, SDM residence and many houses. Many vehicles parked in the tehsil premises were buried under the debris. The roads of the town were filled with so much debris that they started looking like ponds. A young girl died after being buried under debris in the nearby Sagwara village.

DM gave information about the devastation

Chamoli ADM Vivek Prakash said, “There has been heavy damage due to the flood. 20-year-old woman Kavita is buried. A person named Joshi is missing. NDRF and SDRF teams reached the spot last night. The road has been closed due to the flood and people are facing a lot of problems. The administration is engaged in relief work. Apart from this, we have also set up relief camps. The District Magistrate left for the spot early in the morning and relief work is going on there.”

Difficulties increased due to closure of roads

Due to heavy rains and debris, the Tharali-Gwaldam road has been closed near Mingdera. The Tharali-Sagwara road is also blocked. Due to the closure of these two routes, movement in the area has come to a halt. In such a situation, the local people are facing a lot of trouble.

The administration has given instructions to speed up relief and rescue operations. The SDRF team is present at the spot. It is engaged in relief and rescue work. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) team is busy opening the road near Mingdera so that traffic and relief work can be smoothened soon.

Schools and Anganwadi centers closed

The district administration has ordered to keep all the schools and Anganwadi centers in Tharali tehsil closed keeping in mind the security. District Magistrate Dr. Sandeep Tiwari said that the police and administration teams are constantly present on the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue work.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted, “Last night, sad news of cloudburst was received in Tharali area of ​​​​Chamoli district. The district administration, SDRF and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue work. In this regard, I am constantly in touch with the local administration and personally keeping a close watch on the situation. I pray to God for the well-being of everyone.”
