Close-range gunshot wounds to head: Family of five found dead in UP’s Saharanpur

A shocking incident has come to light in the Sarsawa police station area of ​​Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Police recovered the bodies of five members of the same family from a room in a house in Kaushik Vihar Colony. The deceased have been identified as Ashok Rathi (40), who worked as a land surveyor, his wife Ajinta (37), his mother Vidyawati (70), and their two sons, Kartik (16) and Dev (13). Three pistols were also recovered from the scene.

Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Tiwari said that the police received information in the morning that a land surveyor and his family members had been found dead in Kaushik Vihar Colony. Upon receiving the information, the police and forensic team reached the spot. During the investigation, all the bodies were found in the same room. Three loaded pistols were found near Ashok Rathi’s body. Preliminary investigation revealed that all the family members had been shot in the head.

The shots were fired at close range!

The SSP stated that the shots appeared to have been fired at very close range. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the entire matter and are gathering information related to the family and social background of the deceased Ashok Rathi. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is also being examined. The three pistols recovered from the scene are believed to be country-made, and an investigation is underway to determine if they were licensed.

Police seal the house

According to the police, Ashok Rathi had received the land surveyor job on compassionate grounds after his father’s death. He was working as a land surveyor in Nakur tehsil. His two sons were students in the tenth and eleventh grades. To prevent the investigation from being compromised, the police have sealed the house.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Saharanpur Range DIG Abhishek Singh, SSP Ashish Tiwari, SP Rural Sagar Jain, and the forensic team reached the spot. The police have sent all the bodies for post-mortem examination and are investigating the case from every angle.
