China on Friday raised the additional duty on goods imported from the US to 125 percent. It has taken this step after the US imposed a 145 percent duty on exports from China. China’s Commerce Ministry said, China has raised the additional duty on imported US products to 125 percent, which was earlier 84 percent. The Commerce Ministry said that China has also filed a lawsuit in the World Trade Organization after the US duty hike.

According to the latest US notification, a total of 145 percent duty has been imposed on China. China had earlier retaliated by imposing an 84 percent duty and also banned the import of some US companies. It also expressed interest in negotiating with the US to resolve the issue. China is the only country that has retaliated against the US duty.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced to increase the tariff on China to 145%. This new tariff is in addition to the 20 percent duty imposed earlier this year on charges of producing the drug fentanyl. In this way, the total tariff on China becomes 145 percent. Earlier, after China imposed 84 percent duty on American products, President Donald Trump imposed 125 percent tariff on Chinese products.

Trump, while making the announcement, called it the biggest day in history. Trump said, “Their biggest problem is that they do not have enough time in the day. Everyone wants to come and make a deal and we are working with many different countries and it will all work out very well. I think it will work out very well indeed, but we are in a good position.

At the same time, the Chinese reacted strongly to Trump’s decision and said that America’s objective did not win the support of the people and will fail. China will not sit quietly and will not allow the legitimate rights and interests of its people to be deprived. China said that it does not want conflict, but it will not be afraid of the constant threats of tariffs by America. China said that neither do we bow down nor are we afraid of provocation. Thus both the countries do not seem ready to back down.
