The dragon again showed its red eye, digging near Pangong Lake in Ladakh, US pictures revealed the secret

China is not refraining from doing its nefarious activities on the border. The Chinese army has been digging in the area around Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh for a long time. China also has a military base in the same area, where underground bunkers have been built to store weapons, fuel and hard shelters for armored vehicles. However, this is not the first time that China’s activity has increased near Pangong Lake.
The Sirijap Military Base of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is located among the mountains on the northern shore of Pangong Lake. It is the headquarters of the Chinese soldiers deployed around the lake. It is worth noting here that China has built this military base at the place which India claims. The Chinese military base is located 5 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This area was not inhabited by humans until the standoff started on the LAC in May 2020.
China’s ‘dark truth’ revealed in satellite images
According to the Hindustan Times report, the pictures shared by BlackSky, an American company that keeps records of satellite images, show that there are underground bunkers at the Sirijap military base. They are being used to store weapons, fuel and other supplies. The Sirijap base was built in 2021-22. For the last few years, China has continuously strengthened itself on the border. It has also built roads on the other side of the LAC.
In a picture taken on May 30, eight sloping entry gates of a large underground bunker are clearly visible. Similarly, there is another small bunker near the big bunker, where five entry gates are visible. Apart from several large buildings for the headquarters, the military base also has hard shelters or covered parking, where armored vehicles can be kept. Experts say that these shelters are also to protect vehicles from airstrikes.
China’s military base connected to a network of roads and trenches
A BlackSky analyst said, “The military base is a large part of armored vehicle storage facilities, test ranges, fuel and weapon storage buildings.” He said that artillery and other weapons are currently present at the military base, which are connected to a large network of roads and trenches. If needed, these weapons and guns can be brought to the border. The surprising thing here is that these roads cannot be seen even in satellite images.
Why are underground bunkers necessary?
China’s military base is located 120 km south-east of the area where the clash took place in the Galwan Valley. So far, no official comment has been made by the Indian Army on this. A former Indian Army commander posted in the area around Pangong Lake said that the underground bunkers built by China have been built for military purposes. The former commander also explained why underground bunkers are necessary.
He said, “In the current situation, everything can be detected through satellite or aerial surveillance. We do not have any such underground bunker. Without a bunker, weapons and storage facilities can be targeted by airstrikes. China is an expert in digging and does not require high-tech technology. Bunkers can be built only through civil engineering and funds.”
