एक्टिविस्ट सोनम वांगचुक को तत्काल रिहा किया जाए, सरकार ने हिरासत तत्काल प्रभाव से रद्द करने का किया फैसला
Ladakh: Activist Sonam Wangchuk to be Released from Jail Soon. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued orders for his release. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the government is committed to maintaining an atmosphere of peace, stability, and mutual trust in Ladakh, to facilitate constructive and meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders. With this objective in mind, and following due deliberation, the government has decided to revoke Sonam Wangchuk’s detention with immediate effect. The government reiterates its commitment to taking all necessary measures for the security of Ladakh.
In light of the grave law-and-order situation that arose in the peaceful city of Leh on September 24, 2025, and pursuant to an order issued by the District Magistrate of Leh aimed at maintaining public order, Sonam Wangchuk was taken into custody on September 26, 2025, under the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA). Sonam Wangchuk has already served approximately half of his detention period under the said Act.
Situation in Ladakh Deteriorated Due to ‘Bandh’ (Shutdown)
The Central Government is actively engaging in dialogue with various communities and leaders in Ladakh to address the aspirations and concerns of the people in the region. However, the prevailing atmosphere of shutdowns and protests has proven detrimental to the peaceful fabric of society and has severely impacted the economy as well as various sections of the community—including students, job seekers, businesses, tourism operators, and tourists.
Sonam Wangchuk is currently lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail. He was taken into custody on September 26 of last year. Two days prior to his detention, the government had accused him of inciting violence in connection with violent protests—demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution—in which four people had lost their lives.
