A strong earthquake struck Turkey on Monday. Officials said at least three buildings collapsed after a strong earthquake struck western Turkey. However, no casualties have been reported. The emergency management agency AFAD stated that the epicenter of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake was in the town of Sindirgi, in the Balıkesir province. It struck at 11:48 pm local time. Its depth was measured at 5.99 kilometers (3.72 miles).
According to the AP report, aftershocks were felt after the earthquake, felt in Istanbul and the surrounding provinces of Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said at least three vacant buildings and a two-story shop collapsed in Sindirgi. These buildings had already been damaged in the previous earthquake.
22 People Injured
According to Balıkesir Governor Ismail Ustaoğlu, a total of 22 people were injured in panic-stricken falls. Sindirgi District Administrator Dogukan Koyuncu told the state-run Anadolu Agency that he had not yet received any reports of casualties or property damage, although agencies were continuing their assessments.
Many people were afraid to return home after the earthquake. Ustaoğlu said mosques, schools, and playgrounds were being kept open for those hesitant to return. A magnitude 6.1 earthquake also struck Sindirgi in August, killing one person. Turkey lies on top of a major fault line, making earthquakes frequent here.

The epicenter was 160 kilometers east of the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
