What is ‘Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitra Internship Programme’?

In Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot government started the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitra Internship Program in the year 2021. Under the scheme, the government selected eligible youth and gave them an opportunity to do internship in different fields for 6 months. After completion of the internship the youth were also given a certificate. If a candidate’s performance was good then his internship period was extended. Under the scheme, there was an opportunity to do internship for a maximum of two years.

What did Gehlot say on the government’s decision?

After the announcement of closure of the scheme, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given a strong reaction. He posted on Twitter, “It is not appropriate to terminate the services of about 5,000 youth working in the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitra Internship Program to take the government schemes to every home. These youth are aware of the government schemes and are helping the government a lot.”

Gehlot further said, “If the new government had a problem with the name of this scheme, then like Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendras, it could have changed the name in the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Whereas the people of the state know that during the last tenure, our government had increased the salaries of Panchayat assistants appointed temporarily by the BJP government by making them permanent. With such positive thinking, the new government should also continue the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Mitra Internship Programme.”
