A private bus headed for Bengaluru caught fire after colliding with a motorcyclist in Kurnool, killing 20 people, including two children and the motorcyclist, and injuring nine others.

Drunk Arrived at Petrol Pump

Police have filed a case against the driver for negligence and rash driving in the bus accident. Police are investigating the matter from several angles. Police have obtained CCTV footage from a petrol pump, which shows the person being held responsible for the accident. This man arrived at the petrol pump to get petrol, accompanied by another man. However, there was no employee present at the petrol pump, so he started leaving. While leaving the petrol pump, the man’s bike swerved, narrowly avoiding a fall. CCTV footage shows the man driving recklessly and under the influence of alcohol.

Bengaluru police suspect that the bike rider’s reckless driving caused the bus to catch fire and suffer significant damage. However, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The official said that a case has been registered at the Ulindakonda police station in Kurnool district based on a complaint from N. Ramesh, one of the survivors. He said, “We have registered a case against two bus drivers based on the complaint of N. Ramesh, a survivor of the bus fire incident in Kurnool, accusing them of reckless and rash driving.”

According to the police, most of the victims were so badly charred that they could not be identified. They stated that after the collision, the motorcycle dragged for some distance under the bus, and in the process, its petrol tank lid broke open, causing a fire. Ramesh stated in his complaint that the V Kaveri Travels bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers and was traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru.
