उत्तराखंड: हरिद्वार कुंभ क्षेत्र बनेगा सनातन नगरी! गैर हिंदुओं के प्रवेश पर लग सकती है रोक

The Uttarakhand government may ban the entry of non-Hindus to all religious places and Ganga ghats in the Haridwar Kumbh area. Official sources provided this information here on Tuesday. It was reported that work is underway in this regard. The entire Kumbh area, including the municipal areas of Haridwar and Rishikesh, may be declared a sacred Sanatan city.

Preparation to ban entry of non-Hindus at 105 Ganga ghats

Sources said that the entry of non-Hindus may be banned at all religious places and a total of 105 Ganga ghats in the Kumbh area. The Shri Ganga Sabha, which manages Har Ki Pauri and the surrounding Ganga ghats in Haridwar, recently raised this demand, after which Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also gave indications in this regard.

Demand being considered seriously

The Chief Minister said that Haridwar is a revered place for Mother Ganga and the saints, and the demand raised from there is being considered seriously. He said that all aspects are being studied to maintain the sanctity, divinity, and traditions of the Haridwar region, and old laws are also being reviewed in this regard.

Nitin Gautam, president of the Shri Ganga Sabha, said that since the area has been named ‘Kumbh area’ based on the faith of Sanatan Hindus, it should be declared a Hindu area. He said that the entry of non-Hindus should be completely banned at all religious places and Ganga ghats within this area so that Hindus can perform their worship and rituals according to their religious beliefs.

Reference to municipal rules from 1916

Gautam also cited the Haridwar Municipality rules made more than 100 years ago in 1916, which declared the entire area of seven to eight kilometers around Har Ki Pauri as a non-Hindu restricted zone. Some saints have also supported the demand to ban the entry of non-Hindus into the Kumbh Mela area.

Meanwhile, State Congress Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana termed the state government’s proposed move as against the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (composite culture of India). Dhasmana said, “There is no need to declare the Kumbh area a restricted zone for non-Hindus because only Hindus gather there.” He alleged that this move by the government is an attempt to polarize votes and seize power before the 2027 assembly elections.
