The situation in Nepal is not normal even after the coup. After the resignation of Prime Minister KP Oli Sharma, the army has taken over the command. The army has appealed to the youth to end the protests. Amid the uproar, it has been decided to continue the curfew in Kathmandu city till further orders. The Nepali Army is patrolling in Kathmandu, where violence has been going on for the last two days and the protest has turned violent.

Violence, tension and curfew
The Nepal government has imposed an indefinite curfew in Kathmandu and surrounding areas. Despite the lifting of social media ban, disturbances continue and tension persists in the capital. Curfew continues in the country’s capital and Lalitpur to calm the situation.
The government lifted the ban on 26 major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube on September 9.
However, despite the lifting of the ban, the protesters are no longer limited to just opening social media, but are making wider demands like corruption, unemployment and political accountability.
Number of casualties and injured
According to reports, 23 people have lost their lives so far in the violent protests. More than 300 people are injured, who have been admitted to the hospital.
Reports of domestic violence and attacks
Protesters have attacked Foreign Minister and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife. The situation is very serious. Protesters also beat up Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Paudel. The Nepali Army intervened to restore law and order across the country and took command of security.
Political vacuum and uncertainty ahead
After the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepal currently does not have a stable government and political instability persists. The Gen-Z movement has made it clear that they are demanding not just a change in leadership but deep political reform.
Where is Oli after resignation?
Media reports are claiming that Oli was “trying to flee to Dubai”, but this was not possible due to the airport being closed.
Reports said that Oli reached the military cantonment (Budhanilkanth) in Shivpuri on the evening of 9 September and is said to be safe there.
What happened when in Nepal?
On September 4, the government banned several major social media platforms, causing great resentment among the youth.
On September 8, a massive Gen-Z movement started in Kathmandu. Youth took to the streets against corruption and unemployment and demanded the withdrawal of the social media ban.
On 9 September, the protests took a violent turn. Police fired tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition, killing 19 protesters and injuring hundreds.
Amid the violence, the government withdrew the social media ban.
Protesters set fire to the Parliament House, Singha Durbar, Supreme Court, President House, PM’s residence (Balakot) and houses of several ministers.
KP Sharma Oli resigned from his post on 9 September. In his resignation letter, he said that he wanted to assist in a political solution according to the Constitution.
Due to the uproar and violence in Parliament, Tribhuvan International Airport was closed. All flights were cancelled.
The army took over the security by imposing curfew and started monitoring all major sites.
