Army called amid fresh tension in Manipur, police rescued ASP after kidnapping in Imphal West, weapons seized

The army was called in Manipur on Tuesday as fresh tension increased. Four troops of Assam Rifles were deployed in Imphal East after a senior police officer was allegedly abducted by a senior police officer by the activists of the Meeti organization Arambai Tenggol. The officers provided this information.

Officials said that Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar posted in the campaign branch of Manipur Police was rescued after quick action by police and security forces. Police officer has been admitted to the hospital where his condition is said to be stable.

Officials said about the incident that Arambai Tenggol activists attacked Kumar’s house in Wangkhai of Imphal East around 7 pm on Tuesday evening.

Officials said the reason for the firing was that the concerned officer arrested six members of the group for alleged involvement in vehicle theft.

After the arrest, a group of Meera Pabis (Meeti Women’s Group) protested and blocked the roads demanding her release.

He said that in the attack on Tuesday evening, armed workers associated with Arambai Tenggol vandalized the house and damaged at least four vehicles due to bullets.

The police officer’s father M. Kulla said, “We tried to talk to them after entering the premises of armed people but suddenly they started firing on vehicles and properties. So to save ourselves, we had to run away and go inside. ”According to officials, the father called his son and informed them about the incident.

The officer arrived with his team but was kidnapped. The number of policemen was allegedly less than the kidnapped people who were allegedly activists related to Arambai Tenggol.

The Manipur Police immediately took action and took the forces along to start a successful rescue operation. With this effort, Kumar was safely rescued within a few hours. The situation deteriorated after rescue efforts, which the state government had to seek the help of the army.
