Air India London flight cancelled due to snag. Same route on which AI 171 crashed

An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London was cancelled due to a technical fault. This is the fourth flight involving Air India aircraft to be cancelled in the last 24 hours. Flight AI159, which had earlier reached Ahmedabad from Delhi, was to resume service on the Ahmedabad-London route. This would have been the first flight after the Ahmedabad plane crash, in which a plane crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad and killed more than 260 people. The flight was scheduled to take off on June 17 at 1:10 pm. Air India has confirmed that the affected passengers will be refunded.

Speaking to news agency ANI, a passenger said, “I was travelling with my wife and two children. We have not received any response from the airline on the cancellation of the flight.”

According to data from Flightradar24, the aircraft operating on this route was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. This is the same model that recently crashed in Ahmedabad.

Recently many cases have come to light

Several incidents of different problems in Air India flights have come to light in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday itself, Air India flight AI-180, which was going from San Francisco to Mumbai, had to be deboarded as a precautionary measure when the passengers experienced a technical problem related to the engine during a planned stopover in Kolkata.

On Monday, flight AI-315 coming from Hong Kong to Delhi had to return soon after take-off on suspicion of technical fault. On the same day, Air India Express service going from Delhi to Ranchi was also sent back to Delhi due to technical problem.

Earlier, on June 13, flight AI-379 coming from Phuket to Delhi, which had 156 passengers on board, had to return halfway after receiving a bomb threat. The plane was landed safely and security checks were done before the passengers could disembark.

Ahmedabad plane crash

On June 12, Air India flight AI171 crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad. A ‘mayday call’ (emergency message) was sent by the pilot during the flight. 241 out of 242 people on board the flight were killed in this accident. There were also casualties at the BJ Medical College hostel located near the accident site, from which a total of 265 bodies were recovered.

The only surviving passenger is Vishwas Kumar Ramesh. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has started investigating the accident and the black box of the plane has been recovered. After this terrible tragedy, the Tata Group has announced a compensation of ₹ 1 crore to the family of each deceased.
