An Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30 fighter jet has gone missing after taking off from Jorhat Air Base in Assam on Thursday evening. The aircraft reportedly disappeared from radar while flying over Karbi Anglong district. The Air Force has launched a search operation to locate the fighter jet.

The Air Force said in a post on X, “There is no news of an Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet. The Sukhoi aircraft took off from Jorhat Air Base in Assam and was last in contact at 7:42 pm. Further information is being ascertained. A search and rescue mission has been launched.”

Defense Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat said in a statement, “An Air Force aircraft has been reported missing. The aircraft took off from Jorhat Air Force Base in Assam and was last in contact at 7:42 pm.” He said that a search and rescue operation has been launched to locate the fighter jet. The spokesperson said there was no information about the pilot yet.

Meanwhile, another official said some locals in the Chokihola area of ​​the Bokajan subdivision claimed the plane may have crashed in a forest area. “We are sending a team to verify this. We cannot confirm anything at this time. A search operation has been launched to locate the fighter jet,” he said.
