Abdul Salam alias Aslam Mukhiya, president and former head of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of Gopalganj district of Bihar, was shot dead by unknown criminals.
A police officer said that Abdul Salam was coming with a person on a bike from Turkaha bridge towards Gopalganj at around 9 pm on Monday night. Meanwhile, two criminals riding on another bike shot him near Turkaha bridge. The seriously injured former chief was taken to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for treatment. He died during treatment in the hospital late at night.
Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat said that as soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and started investigating the entire matter. Prima facie it appears that the murder was due to personal rivalry. He said that a special investigation team has been formed to investigate the case and arrest the culprits.
