Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma said, “There has been a sudden flood and landslide in Jodh village of Kathua. 2-3 houses have been affected by the landslide. 6 people are reported to be trapped. Relief and rescue work is going on. Due to heavy rains, some roads on the way have also been washed away.” CM Abdullah gave instructions to the administration

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday directed the administration to take immediate relief, rescue and evacuation measures to ensure the safety of people in cloudburst and landslide-hit Kathua district.

The Chief Minister’s Office said, “He expressed condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and assured all necessary assistance.” The Chief Minister’s Office said that the Chief Minister has directed the administration to take immediate relief, rescue and evacuation measures to ensure the safety and assistance of the affected families.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office of Jammu and Kashmir tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the massive landslide triggered by rain in several areas of Kathua. This tragedy is extremely heartbreaking. I have informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the rescue and relief operations being carried out by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, Police and Administration.” Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that a cloudburst incident took place in the Janglot area of Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir. 4 people have died in this.

Report of landslide also

Landslides also occurred in Bagad and Changra villages (Kathua police station area), and Dilwan-Hutli (Lakhanpur police station area), but no major damage has been reported there.

Rising water level, administration’s warning

Heavy rains have occurred in many areas of the state. Due to heavy rains, the water level in most of the reservoirs is rising rapidly. The Ujh river is flowing close to the danger level. The district administration is alert and people have been appealed to stay away from reservoirs and rivers.
