A fire broke out for the third time in 48 hours at the Prayagraj Magh Mela; a tent caught fire, man sustained serious burns

Speaking to news agency IANS, camp in-charge Yogesh Mishra also said that an eternal flame was burning there. It seems that whatever happened was due to that.

A fire broke out again at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. A camp near the old railway line caught fire for the third time in 48 hours. The tent was completely destroyed before the fire brigade could extinguish the flames. One person sustained serious burns and has been admitted to SRN Hospital.

Animesh Mishra, the chief fire officer of the Magh Mela, said, “At 11:08 pm, we received information that a fire had broken out in a camp near the old railway bridge at the intersection of Ganpati and Annapurna Marg. Our vehicles reached the spot within two minutes, and eight fire tenders also arrived. The fire was brought under control immediately.”

He informed that a young man was injured in the incident and has been sent to the hospital for treatment. The officer said that preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a continuously burning lamp (Akhand Jyoti). However, efforts are underway to determine the exact cause.

Speaking to news agency IANS, camp in-charge Yogesh Mishra also said that a continuously burning lamp was present there. “It seems that whatever happened was due to that. My nephew was sleeping at the time. By the time the people nearby noticed, the tent was already on fire. People rescued him, and he was then taken to the hospital.”

Kalpavasi Shiv Devi Mishra said that the cause of the fire is unknown. Someone informed the police that a fire had broken out in Sector Number Five. “When the police arrived and broke down the door, we suddenly woke up. Our sister and other family members were sleeping at the time.”

She further added, “When we came out, we saw that the area was illuminated by the fire. I woke everyone up and told them to get out quickly. We managed to escape in time, but later we saw that everything had been destroyed.”
