Six passengers were killed and 19 injured after a double-decker bus overturned on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. The condition of several of the injured is critical.

A major road accident occurred early this morning on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. Within the jurisdiction of the Auras police station, at the 262-kilometer mark of the expressway, a double-decker bus—packed with passengers and traveling from Delhi to Gorakhpur—lost control, crashed into a safety railing, and overturned. Six people died on the spot in the accident, while 21 passengers sustained injuries. The condition of several injured passengers is reported to be critical. Following the crash, the scene was engulfed in chaos and cries of distress.
Driver Dozes Off; Bus Goes Out of Control and Overturns
According to reports, the double-decker bus was en route from Delhi to Gorakhpur. On Tuesday morning, as the bus reached the Lucknow-Agra Expressway within the Auras police station area of Unnao, the driver reportedly dozed off momentarily. As a result, the bus suddenly went out of control, first crashing into the safety railing before overturning. The impact was so severe that the bus’s windows shattered, and several passengers were thrown out of the vehicle. Those thrown out of the bus have sustained serious injuries.
Police and UPEIDA Teams Engage in Relief and Rescue Operations
Upon receiving news of the accident, the police, the UPEIDA team, and the local administration immediately rushed to the scene. Relief and rescue operations were initiated without delay. With the assistance of the police and local residents, passengers trapped inside the bus were successfully extricated. The injured were transported via ambulance to nearby hospitals. Several critically injured passengers have been referred to the Lucknow Trauma Center for advanced medical treatment.
According to police officials, six passengers lost their lives in the accident, while 19 others sustained injuries. Efforts are currently underway to identify the deceased. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Traffic on the expressway remained disrupted for some time following the accident but was subsequently restored to normalcy.
Eyewitnesses Describe the Horrific Scene
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was traveling at a very high speed. Suddenly, the bus swerved erratically and overturned after crashing into the safety railing. The accident was so horrific that it triggered screams and panic among the passengers. Several people were trapped beneath the seats and were extricated only after considerable effort.
