The police is probing the matter. In the last 24 hours, Imphal and Bishnupur have especially become the center of violence. Many incidents of arson and vandalism have come to light here. A policeman has been killed in an attack by a gunman. Meanwhile, 300 weapons were looted at Bishnupur outpost.
A Manipur police statement late on Thursday night said a mob attacked the Keerenphabi police post of the 2nd Battalion of the Manipur Armed Police and the Thanglawai police post in Bishnupur and took away a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The mob of men and women also tried to snatch arms and ammunition from Hingang police station and Singjamei police station in the same district, but were chased away by the security forces.
The statement said armed attackers and security forces exchanged gunfire in Kautruk, Harothel and Senjam Chirang areas, in which two persons, including a security personnel, sustained bullet injuries. The security forces retaliated by firing and repelled the attackers.
