A towering figure of the music world, Asha Bhosle, has passed away. She breathed her last at the age of 92. Her demise was confirmed by her son, Anand Bhosle; Maharashtra’s Cultural Minister, Ashish Shelar; and Dr. Prateet Samdani of Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. As this tragic news emerged, a wave of grief swept through both the film fraternity and the general public.
It is reported that Asha Bhosle had been in poor health for some time and had been admitted to the hospital.
Speaking to the media outside the hospital, her son Anand announced that her mortal remains would be kept for public viewing (final darshan) from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Monday, and the funeral rites would be performed with full state honors at Shivaji Park at 4:00 PM. Meanwhile, Dr. Prateet Samdani stated that it is deeply sorrowful news that Asha Bhosle ji has passed away. She suffered from multi-organ failure, which ultimately led to her demise.
Speaking to the media, Maharashtra’s Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar remarked, “Today, the entire nation is immersed in grief. Today marks the end of an era.”
Asha Bhosle’s name will forever be etched in golden letters in the history of Indian music. Throughout a career spanning over eight decades, she remained an active force in the music world and sang thousands of songs. Her voice possessed a unique magic that captivated people across every generation. She sang over 12,000 songs—a feat that stands as a unique record in itself.
Many of the songs she sang continue to live on in people’s hearts to this day. Tracks such as ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Yeh Mera Dil’, ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne’, ‘In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke’, and ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ have immortalized her legacy.
In recognition of her immense contributions, she was bestowed with numerous prestigious awards. She was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Padma Vibhushan, National Film Awards, and several Filmfare Awards. She also holds the distinction of being one of the most prolific recording artists in the world.
