हिमाचल प्रदेश के मंडी में भीषण भूस्खलन, 9 घरों को खाली कराया गया

A grave threat of landslides looms over Roparu village, located within the Suradi Gram Panchayat in the Kotli subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. Massive boulders and debris from the hillside have become precariously lodged directly above the village. Residents remain terrified due to the appearance of cracks in the hill. A colossal boulder rolled down and crashed onto the cowshed of a local resident, Paramdev, completely flattening the structure. In view of the imminent danger, the administration has immediately evacuated nine families from Roparu village.

National Highway Construction Cutting and Two Days of Rain Cited as Causes

Gawar Construction Company is currently undertaking the construction of a National Highway at this site. Work at this specific location had previously been halted, although construction continued in adjacent areas. Following two days of rainfall in the region, the hillside situated above Roparu village gave way, sending boulders and debris tumbling onto the road. Three to four large boulders are currently teetering on the edge, on the verge of falling from the road level down the slope. The excavation work (cutting) carried out during the National Highway construction is being cited as the primary cause of this landslide.

Cancer Patient Paramdev’s Ration and Belongings Destroyed

Due to ongoing construction work on his house, Paramdev had stored his food rations and other belongings inside his cowshed. The falling boulder destroyed all of these items as well. Paramdev is a cancer patient, and the work on roofing his house was being carried out with the assistance and cooperation of the local community. The homes of several residents—including Paramdev, Kashmir Singh, Maniram, Tej Singh, and Prakash Chand—remain under imminent threat. The landslide has caused cracks to extend high up the hillside, endangering nine residential houses and two to three cowsheds.

Immediate Relief of ₹10,000 Provided to Each Family

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Kotli, accompanied by the Tehsildar, visited the village to assess the situation. The SDM confirmed that boulders and debris have descended from the hillside, and cracks have indeed appeared in the slope. He noted that one resident’s cowshed has been completely demolished. All residents’ homes have been evacuated, and arrangements for their accommodation have been made at the Panchayat Bhawan. Nine families have currently shifted to the homes of their relatives. Each family has been provided with a sum of ₹10,000 as immediate relief.
