The Indian Embassy confirmed the incident on Saturday night (February 7, 2026) and stated that all injured Indian students are receiving medical treatment.
Indian Embassy in Contact with Authorities
The Indian Embassy issued a statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) stating that the embassy became active immediately upon receiving information about the unfortunate incident in Ufa. According to the embassy, it is in constant contact with the local Russian authorities. Officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan have also left for Ufa to provide all possible assistance to the injured students.
How did the attack happen?
According to the news agency PTI, on Saturday (February 7, 2026), a 15-year-old boy entered the premises of the State Medical University in Ufa. The accused went directly to the university dormitory and suddenly attacked the students present there with a knife. The attack was so sudden that the students were unable to defend themselves, and chaos ensued throughout the campus.
Police also attacked
According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the accused stabbed several students. When the police arrived at the scene and tried to apprehend him, he also attacked two police officers. While resisting arrest, the accused also inflicted injuries upon himself. Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Major General Irina Volk stated that some police officers were also injured while subduing the suspect.
Hospitalized, one in critical condition
The Russian Ministry of Health stated that four people injured in the attack have been hospitalized. One of them is in critical condition. The teenager who carried out the attack has also been admitted to a children’s hospital and his condition is also reported to be serious.
Suspected links to a neo-Nazi organization
According to local media reports, the accused is suspected of having links to a banned neo-Nazi organization. It is reported that he was also shouting nationalist slogans during the attack. Investigating agencies have launched a thorough investigation into the incident and are examining the motive, network, and background of the attacker.
