A horrific road accident has occurred in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. On Saturday afternoon, around 2:00 PM, an out-of-control truck wreaked havoc at the Semri toll plaza on the Kanpur highway. Two cars were waiting in line at the toll booth when a speeding truck coming from behind rammed into them. The entire incident was captured on the CCTV cameras installed at the toll plaza. The video clearly shows that the collision was so severe that those present couldn’t even react in time. Immediately after the accident, screams and panic erupted at the toll plaza, spreading fear among the other employees.
Major Accident Involving Employee Performing Manual Scanning
At the time of the accident, toll booth employee Ramakant Richharia was manually scanning a car’s FASTag because the scanner machine was not working. As he approached the car, the truck coming from behind hit both the stationary cars. Upon impact, 56-year-old Ramakant was thrown into the air and landed directly on the car’s bonnet. The truck was traveling at such a high speed that it dragged the cars and the employee trapped on the bonnet for about 50 meters. The horrific sight sent shivers down the spines of everyone present.
Injured Receiving Treatment at Hospital, Police Investigation Underway
In this accident, toll employee Ramakant Richharia, along with several passengers in the cars, sustained serious injuries. Local residents and toll workers immediately pulled all the injured from under the truck and out of the cars. They were rushed to the Moth Community Health Center where they are currently receiving treatment. The injured employee, Ramakant, is reportedly a resident of Orai in Jalaun district. Upon receiving information, the Moth police arrived at the scene, seized the truck, and have begun an investigation. The police are now investigating the truck driver’s negligence based on the CCTV footage.
Questions Raised About Highway Safety and Speeding Vehicles
This accident on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway once again raises questions about speeding and safety standards. Eyewitnesses say the truck was traveling at such a high speed that the driver didn’t even attempt to apply the brakes in time. Such negligence is proving fatal in sensitive areas like toll plazas, where there are often long queues of vehicles. Local residents have demanded that strict measures be taken to control speed limits near the toll plaza to prevent similar incidents and protect the lives of employees like Ramakant and innocent commuters in the future.
