A small aircraft made an emergency landing in Rourkela, Odisha, after experiencing a technical malfunction during the flight. The nine-seater plane, which was coming from Bhubaneswar, crashed during the landing.

Odisha’s Commerce and Transport Minister, B.B. Jena, said that at least six people sustained minor injuries when a small private airline plane crashed near Rourkela on Saturday. Jena told reporters, “A nine-seater private A-1 aircraft carrying six passengers was en route from Rourkela to Bhubaneswar when it crashed. The passengers sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition. The accident occurred at Jalda, 10 kilometers from Rourkela. By God’s grace, it was not a major accident.”
Prasanna Pradhan, Director of Biju Patnaik International Airport, said, “The aircraft was going from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. It crashed while landing 10 kilometers before Rourkela. There were four passengers and two crew members on board. All are safe. It is an India One Airlines aircraft. The aircraft number is C-208.”
The minister said that the state government has informed the Director General of Civil Aviation about the situation. He said, “Our director will visit the accident site soon.” Rescue teams have reached the spot, and the injured have been immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Airport sources said it was a regular flight operated by a private operator between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar.
The injured pilots have been identified as Captain Naveen Kadanga and Co-pilot Tarun Srivastava. The injured passengers include Sushant Kumar Biswal, Anita Sahu, Sunil Agarwal, and Sabita Agarwal. All the injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Bhubaneswar Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan confirmed the incident, stating that all the injured are safe and none are in serious condition. He said that the aircraft made an emergency landing, resulting in injuries to some passengers and crew, but relief and rescue operations were launched promptly. Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena also issued a statement on the incident, saying that it could have been a major accident, but fortunately, no lives were lost. He said, “All the passengers on board the aircraft are safe.” Initial investigations suggest a possible technical or mechanical malfunction. A detailed inquiry will be conducted to determine the actual causes of the accident.
Landing and Takeoff Affected
Following the incident, flight operations at the airstrip were disrupted for some time. Authorities and aviation officials arrived at the scene to assess the situation and began the process of moving the aircraft to a safe location. Aviation safety agencies will now investigate how the technical malfunction occurred during the flight and what steps can be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. Currently, all the injured are in stable condition, and authorities are relieved that a major aircraft accident was averted.
