Assam Police have arrested a retired Indian Air Force officer, Kulendra Sharma, on charges of working for a spy network linked to Pakistan. According to the police, Sharma had been under surveillance for a long time.

A retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel has been arrested in Assam’s Sonitpur district on charges of having links with Pakistani spies. Police gave this information on Saturday. Additional Superintendent of Police Haricharan Bhumij said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had shared sensitive documents and information with a Pakistani spy through social media. Police have seized his laptop and mobile phone.
Bhumij said that the devices have been sent for forensic examination, although some data has been deleted. The accused was a Junior Warrant Officer in the Indian Air Force and retired from the Salonibari base in Tezpur in 2002. He later joined the electronics department of Tezpur University but subsequently left the job. Bhumij said that a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a local court has sent the accused to five days of police custody.
What did the police claim?
Police claim that Kulendra Sharma was allegedly in contact with people associated with a Pakistani intelligence agency and was providing them with sensitive information. Some suspicious material has been recovered from his mobile phone and laptop. Police suspect that some data has also been deleted.
Kulendra Sharma was posted as a Junior Warrant Officer in the Indian Air Force. He was stationed at the Tezpur Air Force Station, which houses a squadron of Sukhoi-30 fighter jets. He retired in 2002. After retirement, Kulendra also worked at Tezpur University for some time.
Case registered under several sections of the BNS
Sonitpur Deputy SP Haricharan Bhumij said that there is a strong suspicion of the accused’s links with Pakistan, but this can only be confirmed after the completion of the investigation. Police have registered a case against Kulendra Sharma under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Currently, the police are examining the data recovered from the electronic devices and are thoroughly investigating all aspects of the case.
