Uttar Pradesh: Five people arrested in Meerut’s Mawana over ‘I Love Mohammad’ poster

Station House Officer of Mawana, Poonam, said that on the complaint of outpost in-charge Manoj Sharma, an FIR has been registered against five people, Idris, Tasleem, Rihaan, Gulfam and Haroon, on the charge of putting up posters and they have been arrested.

Following a controversy surrounding a poster in Meerut’s Mawana town, police have registered a case against five individuals. Police announced this on Saturday.

Poster was put up at night

According to police, a poster with the words “I Love Mohammed” written in English was put up at the town’s main intersection late Friday night. On Saturday morning, local residents saw it and objected and lodged a protest. As the matter escalated, the administration and police swung into action.

Five Arrested for Posting Posters

Mawana Police Station Officer Poonam stated that based on a complaint from outpost in-charge Manoj Sharma, an FIR has been registered against five individuals: Idris, Tasleem, Rihan, Gulfam, and Haroon, and they have been arrested. She added that action will be taken against those whose roles emerge during the investigation.

Poster removed after controversy

Officials stated that the posters were immediately removed following the controversy, and additional police forces were deployed in the town as a precautionary measure. Police patrols have also been increased to prevent any rumors from spreading. The administration has appealed to the public to maintain peace and disregard any rumors. The atmosphere in the town is currently described as calm.

When did the “I Love Mohammad” controversy begin?

During the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, some members of the Muslim community displayed “I Love Mohammad” banners. Following this, police filed an FIR against 24 people and arrested several others.

In Bareilly, a riot erupted outside a mosque when people gathered with “I Love Mohammad” posters. Police resorted to lathi charge and arrested 68 people, including a local cleric.
