Himachal Pradesh: Rain has caused havoc in Sujanpur subdivision of Hamirpur district. In village panchayat Khairi, three houses came under the grip of a drain that suddenly overflowed after heavy rains at around 3 am on Sunday. Out of these, the house of Kishori Lal son of Danju Ram was the most affected, where the debris of the drain entered the house at night. However, it was fortunate that the family moved to a safe place in time and there was no loss of life. Villagers said that as soon as they heard a loud noise, people woke up from sleep and came out. The goods kept inside the house got damaged by getting buried in the debris. At the same time, the car parked outside the house was completely buried in the debris and turned into junk. Cracks have also appeared in the other two houses, due to which there is an atmosphere of panic among the families. Local people remained engaged in relief work throughout the night and kept trying to remove the debris till morning.

As soon as the information of the incident was received, the Halka Patwari reached the spot and took stock of the situation. After assessing the damage, the administration has assured help to the affected families. Villagers say that people are scared due to the continuous rain and many families are not able to sleep peacefully in their homes even at night. Every year this drain becomes a danger in the rainy season, but this time the pressure of water was so high that houses and vehicles came under its grip. The villagers have demanded the administration to build a strong security wall on the banks of the drain, so that such incidents can be avoided in future.

Water level of the drain flowing in Sujanpur

Apart from this, the water level of Vyas river, Newgal Khad, Bajahar Khad and Janglahad Khad has increased considerably in Sujanpur. Due to rain, people’s problems have increased. Sujanpur Sandhol road connecting to district Mandi is closed at many places. Apart from this, most of the villages of Purani Bamsan area have lost contact with the rest of the world. Khairi Bhatlambar Road via Dudhla was washed away. On the other hand, the water of the drain entered the houses of people in Bajahar village. Villager Krishna Chand said that the water of Bajahar Khad entered their cattle sheds along with the debris. According to the local people, landslides have occurred at many places. On the other hand, the Jal Shakti Department’s Boudu scheme also got flooded due to heavy rains. On the other hand, Sujanpur MLA Captain Ranjit Singh himself reached various places and got busy in getting the road cleared.
