This year Muharram i.e. Ashura holiday has been canceled in Uttar Pradesh. In a letter issued by the Director General of School Education and State Projects on Saturday, July 29, all schools up to class 12 in Uttar Pradesh have been instructed to keep the school open on Saturday, July 29. It has been said in the letter that on this day Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the All India Education Conference in Delhi, arrangements should be made to broadcast this program live to the students in schools. Keep in mind that Muharram i.e. Ashura is on 29th July Saturday itself.

Ashura is observed as a day of mourning to remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions. Muslims mourn on this day. The Shia community takes out various processions and does matam (mourning) on this day. In the previous years, there has been a holiday for schools and government offices on the occasion of Muharram. That’s why this year there was already a holiday in the schools. But two days ago, an order was issued by Uttar Pradesh School Education and State Project Director General Vijayanand to cancel the school holiday and keep it open.
According to the order, the Prime Minister’s All India Education Conference will be broadcast live at the school level through webcast. All schools have been instructed to make arrangements for its telecast. At the same time, he has said in the letter that the information of all the people attending the inauguration session at the school level will be sent to the Education Minister.
Significantly, earlier Muharram holiday was declared on Saturday and the next day being Sunday, there was a two-day holiday. Now this holiday has been canceled after the new order.
