Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra escaped from police custody in the rape case. On Tuesday, he was being taken into custody from Karnal and brought to the local police station, when on the way the MLA and his supporters opened fire on the police. During this, a policeman was injured. It is alleged that the MLA also tried to run over the policeman with his car.
According to reports, Pathanmajra and his supporters fled in a Scorpio and Fortuner. The police have caught the Fortuner, but the MLA riding in the Scorpio is still absconding. Punjab Police teams are searching for him.
The police say that on August 26, a woman had filed a complaint of sexual harassment against the MLA. After this, a rape case was registered on Monday and he was taken into custody from Karnal on Tuesday morning. During this time, this entire incident of escape took place.
Pathanmajra, MLA from Patiala’s Sanaur seat, was recently making open statements against the party leadership. He had accused the AAP of “running Punjab from outside” and had been in a rebellious mood for the past two days.
