Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) infection has been confirmed in four patients in Multanpura village of Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh. An official has given this information.

Mandsaur District Magistrate Aditi Garg said, “Some cases of GBS have been reported in Multanpura but their number is still low. A total of seven such cases have been reported, out of which infection has been confirmed in four.”

She said that after the confirmation of GBS, investigation and survey teams have been deployed in Multanpura, which are going door to door to find out if anyone else is suffering from this infection.

GBS is a rare neurological condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. Early identification of GBS symptoms and timely treatment are important for recovery.

Garg said that information has also come to light that some patients suffering from GBS are getting their treatment outside Mandsaur in Ahmedabad and Indore. He said that the medical records of such patients are also being examined to find out how they got infected.

Dr Shubham Silawat, in-charge of the district hospital and survey, said that a person infected with GBS may have initial symptoms like diarrhea, fever, muscle weakness and tingling sensation.
