Cloudburst triggers flash floods in Uttarakhand’s Dharali; 4 dead, homes swept away

Cloudburst has caused great destruction in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. A drain overflowed due to cloudburst in Dharali village located near Gangotri Dham and Mukhwa on Tuesday. The water of the drain flowed very fast from the hill towards the lower areas, due to which many houses have been completely destroyed.

A cloudburst occurred in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand today on 5 August 2025, due to which the debris, stones and water caused heavy destruction. Due to this natural disaster, the water level of Kheer Ganga river has suddenly increased. Before Gangotri Dham, a cloud burst on the hill near Harshil, whose foothills Dharali village has been swept away in debris and water. Many houses and shops have been destroyed due to natural disaster.

4 people have been confirmed dead. 12 people are feared to be trapped under the debris and 50 to 60 people are missing. At the same time, Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami have expressed grief over the sudden natural disaster in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Dhami is keeping an eye on the situation. He has informed Home Minister Amit Shah about the disaster. He has assured all possible help from the central government.

-How is the rescue operation going on?

Let us tell you that 4 teams of NDRF are engaged in rescue operation at the disaster site. People are also engaged in rescue work along with SDRF, police and army teams. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya has confirmed the natural disaster. He himself is keeping an eye on the situation and is reporting directly to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister is reporting the disaster to Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi is monitoring the situation.

Because there is an army camp in Harshil and a cloud burst over Dharali village near Harshil, the army teams reached the spot within 10 minutes. 150 army personnel are engaged in rescue. People stay here during the Char Dham Yatra, so they have also been stopped from coming to this village, because due to the disaster, Gangotri Dham has lost contact with the district headquarters. The Yamunotri National Highway is also blocked at many places.
