Amarnath Yatra has started from today. The first aarti of Baba Amarnath was performed on Thursday morning. At the same time, the first batch left for the Amarnath cave from Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camps. During this, the devotees kept chanting ‘Har-Har Mahadev’ and ‘Bam-Bam Bhole’. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje was also included with the pilgrims in the first batch.
Amid tight security, the second batch of more than 5,200 pilgrims left from the Jammu base camp on Thursday, which reached the Pahalgam base camp at 2 pm. The second batch will be sent off for the Amarnath cave at 4 am.
On Wednesday, the first batch of 5,892 devotees was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Bhagwati Nagar Camp in Jammu. The 38-day long yatra will be from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes. The yatra will conclude on August 9 on the day of Rakshabandhan. Last year the yatra lasted for 52 days and 5 lakh devotees visited the holy cave.
This year so far more than 3.5 lakh pilgrims have registered. For immediate registration, centers have been opened in Saraswati Dham, Vaishnavi Dham, Panchayat Bhawan and Mahajan Sabha in Jammu. These centers are registering two thousand devotees every day.
