Cloudburst in Silai Band on Barkot-Yamunotri Marg of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand has caused massive destruction. Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya said that 8 to 9 labourers living there went missing after the under-construction hotel site was damaged.

DM Arya said that Yamunotri Marg has also been affected. He said that rescue and search operations are going on in the entire area since the cloudburst. The missing labourers are being searched.

As soon as the information about the incident that happened after 12 midnight on Saturday was received, the police, administration, State Disaster Response Force and other agencies have started relief and rescue operations.

Barkot police station in-charge Deepak Kathet said that some labourers engaged in road construction were living there by putting up tents and they were swept away when there was a heavy flood during the cloudburst.

He said that there is news of eight to nine people missing, for whose search operation has been started. All these labourers are said to be of Nepali origin.

After the cloudburst, apart from Silai Band, the Yamunotri highway is closed at two to three other places, which the National Highway team is trying to open. At the same time, road connectivity has been lost near Ojri.

According to the information received from the District Disaster Control Office, the water level of the Yamuna river has also increased due to continuous rain, while the Kupda Kunshala Trikhili motor bridge in Syanachatti has also come under threat.

It has been said in the information that in Kuthnaur too, due to heavy rains and cloudburst, the agricultural land of the local villagers has been damaged and the fields have been filled with debris. However, there is no report of any loss of life or animal in Kuthnaur at present.
