The wanted criminal who killed BJP leader Rohit Negi in Dehradun, Uttarakhand last Tuesday and his other accomplice were arrested after an encounter on the Uttar Pradesh border.

When there was pressure on the police from all sides in the case of murder of BJP leader Rohit Negi in Dehradun’s Manduwala, SSP Ajay Singh himself took charge and both the accused were caught after an encounter late on Thursday night.
The public pressure was so much that the police had to go out of the border of Uttarakhand and surround the accused in Purkaji, the border area of Uttar Pradesh. Since the main accused of murder belongs to the Muslim community, relatives, local people and public representatives as well as Hindu organizations had opened a front against the police.
Not only this, the regional Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Pundir had even warned of protesting on the road with the public. After the murder of Rohit Negi, who lost his life unnecessarily in a dispute between a friend and his girlfriend, public anger was visible everywhere in Doon.
Actually, Rohit’s only fault was that he was going to teach a lesson to Azhar Tyagi, the ex-boyfriend of his friend’s girlfriend. On the night of the incident, Rohit, his friend and his girlfriend were partying when Azhar Tyagi started threatening the girl on mobile. In the midst of this incident, Rohit was going in a car with his friend to teach Azhar Tyagi a lesson, when Tyagi came in front of the car and opened fire.
The bullet went through the front glass of the car and hit Rohit sitting inside and he died. Since, cases have been registered against the accused Azhar Tyagi in the past as well and he was openly roaming around doing hooliganism, people got angry.
Especially, Premnagar police station remained under suspicion in the case, because despite the complaint, the police was not taking any action against Azhar Tyagi. Due to this careless working style of the police, relatives, regional people, MLAs etc. came out on the road and protested.
On Wednesday, MLA Sahdev Pundir met the SSP and expressed displeasure over the non-arrest of the accused, while on Thursday, workers led by State Congress Committee General Secretary Vinod Singh Chauhan met IG Garhwal and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
He said that in the state capital, a youth from another state shot and killed BJP worker Rohit Negi in Manduwala and the police is not taking any action. On this occasion, Congress state spokesperson Mohan Kala, Rahul Sharma, Ashish Gusain, Mohan Rawat, Arpan Salal, Twinkle Arora, Sanjay Maurya, Vicky Goyal, Manish Garg, Sanjay Gurung, Nitin Chanchal, Neeraj etc. were present.
