The State Special Operations Cell of Punjab Police has busted a big espionage network and arrested Jasbir Singh, a resident of Mahalan village in Rupnagar. Jasbir runs a YouTube channel by the name of Jaan Mahal. He is accused of spying in collaboration with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. Investigation has revealed that Jasbir was associated with Pakistani intelligence officer Shakir alias Jatt Randhawa, Haryana YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra and expelled officer from the Pakistani High Commission Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish. Malhotra has already been arrested. This case has raised serious questions about national security.
According to the report, Punjab Police had received intelligence that Jasbir Singh is part of a terrorist-backed espionage network. Investigation revealed that he was in regular contact with Shakir alias Jatt Randhawa. Randhawa is a key operative of the ISI. Apart from this, Jasbir attended the Pakistan National Day event organized at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi in 2024 on the invitation of Danish. At this event, he met Pakistani army officials and some vloggers who were involved in intelligence activities. Jasbir has traveled to Pakistan thrice in 2020, 2021 and 2024, and several Pakistani numbers have been found in his electronic devices. Forensic investigation of these is underway.
Connection with Jyoti Malhotra
According to the report, Jasbir also had close contact with Haryana YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra. Malhotra was recently arrested on charges of espionage. Jyoti also maintained contact with Danish and met him for visa at the Pakistan High Commission in 2023. After Jyoti’s arrest, Jasbir tried to delete messages with Pakistanis from his devices so that he would not be caught. But the vigilance of the police exposed him. 12 terabytes of data was recovered from Jyoti’s device, which contained evidence of her chats and financial transactions with the ISI.
The arrest came after the recent tension between India and Pakistan and Operation Sindoor. Since this operation, intelligence agencies have been keeping a close watch on espionage networks. Jasbir’s case is proof that Pakistani intelligence agencies are building espionage networks in India using platforms like social media and YouTube. Punjab Police said that a thorough investigation of Jasbir’s devices could lead to more revelations.
