UPI Down: Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay Not Working, Users Report Widespread Outage

On Saturday afternoon, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service suddenly stopped working in many cities of the country including Delhi-NCR. During this time, many people are not able to make payments through UPI.

UPI service suddenly came to a halt across the country. Transactions are failing on major digital platforms like Paytm, PhonePe and Google Pay. People’s grocery, bill payments and money got stuck. Users are surprised by such a big glitch in the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system. There have been a lot of complaints about this on social media. So far no official statement has come from NPCI.

Flood of complaints due to UPI down

Due to the sudden halt of UPI service, there was a flood of complaints from users. By 12 noon, more than 1,200 people listed problems on a website named Downdetector. Of these, 66% users reported payment failure and 34% reported problems in money transfer. Different problems were also seen in different banks and apps. Meaning this problem was not of any one app but of the entire UPI network.

UPI Outage: What should users do

It is not yet clear how this problem came in UPI? Users hope that the problem will be fixed soon. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and neither any major UPI app has given any information about it so far. In such a situation, users should avoid any kind of payment until the service is fully started.

With this, people can transfer money instantly without any fee. UPI is being used today from tea vendors to big malls and companies.
