Several cars of a goods train collided in Kumedpur yard of Katihar division of Malda, West Bengal. The coaches derailed. In view of the incident, two trains were cancelled, 6 were diverted and 4 trains were stopped midway.

Katihar Divisional Railway Manager Surendra Kumar said that the goods train was carrying petrol and was going from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Katihar in Bihar. Kumar said, “Five coaches of a goods train carrying petrol from New Jalpaiguri to Katihar derailed near Kumedpur railway station. Due to the derailed coaches, rail traffic between New Jalpaiguri and Katihar was disrupted. ‘Down The ‘line’ has been opened for rail traffic… Rail traffic on the ‘up line’ will be restored soon.” He said, ”The actual cause of this incident is not yet known… A high-level probe has been ordered.”
NFR said in a bulletin that due to the accident, train operations in the New Jalpaiguri-Malda Town-Katihar section have been affected and several trains have been cancelled. The bulletin said Apart from this, the route of some trains has been changed, some have been stopped before the destination while the timing of some has been changed.
