The death toll in the landslide at Choorlamala in Wayanad, Kerala has risen to 24. Earlier, 19 people were reported dead. More than 100 people are reported to be trapped under the debris. The landslide occurred around 2 am and the area was completely cut off.
Two helicopters were unable to land in the landslide-hit areas due to bad weather. The helicopters are now waiting in Kozhikode. Two helicopters have reached with some personnel and relief materials to start rescue operations. But they have to wait to land in the affected areas.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media after discussions with top officials of the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) on Tuesday morning that information about the landslide-hit areas is being received and it is too early to say anything more about it at this time.

Minister George said, “We have started ensuring that all medical supplies are rushed to the affected areas and hospitals in the area. Medical teams from Kannur and Kozhikode will arrive to expedite the treatment of the injured. Currently, 70 injured are being treated at some hospitals in Wayanad.”
Kerala Chief Secretary V. Venu told local media, “At least two to three landslides occurred around 2 am. At this time, some affected areas are cut off. The weather is also not conducive for NDRF teams to move to some affected areas. Everyone is alert. We will coordinate and carry out rescue operations. We are still trying to find out how many people are trapped. All options, including airlifting people, are being considered to ensure rescue operations.
