A truck carrying sand from the Ganges river in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh went out of control on Wednesday morning and overturned on people sleeping outside roadside huts, killing eight people, including four children. A senior police officer gave this information.
Superintendent of Police Keshav Chandra Goswami said that a truck loaded with sand on Kanpur-Unnao road under Mallawa police station area went out of control and overturned on the members of the same family sleeping outside a roadside hut.
This family belongs to Kala Baj caste. The officer said that eight people including four children and two women died on the spot in the accident. He said that after getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and removed the truck and sand with the help of JCB and took out the bodies buried under it.
Goswami said that in the accident, Awadhesh (40), Sudha (35), Lala (five), Sunaina (11), Budhu (four), Hero (25), Karan (30), and Bihari (two) died on the spot while a four-year-old girl Bittu was injured, who is being treated in the hospital.
According to the police, as soon as the information about the accident was received, the Superintendent of Police and the District Magistrate reached the spot and promptly started the rescue work, due to which a girl and a monkey were saved.
The police arrested the truck driver Awadhesh and took the vehicle into their custody.
According to the police, the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem.
