Violence broke out in Nandigram on Wednesday night ahead of the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, heating up the politics of the state. The incident took place in Mansa Bazaar of Sonchura village of Block No. 1 of Nandigram Assembly in East Medinipur district. It is being told that Trinamool Congress supporters entered the houses of many BJP workers and attacked them with sharp weapons.
A woman BJP worker was killed and eight other BJP workers were injured in this attack. The name of the deceased is said to be Rathibala Aadi. One of the injured has been referred to Kolkata. There is an atmosphere of tension in the area after the incident. Angered by this attack, BJP workers are protesting fiercely. They blocked the roads and raised slogans against Trinamool.
Let us tell you that during the fifth phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections on May 20, cases of clashes and violence were reported at many places in West Bengal. There were reports of sporadic incidents from areas like Barrackpore, Bongaon, Arambag, Howrah etc., which included threatening voters, stopping voting, beating up opposition party workers, etc.
The sixth phase of voting is to be held in the state on May 25 on eight seats including Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur. Voting on all seats will take place from 7 am to 6 pm. The total number of candidates here is 79. This incident of violence before voting has heated up the political atmosphere.
