Investors’ wealth erodes by Rs 5.18 lakh crore as markets crash on Iran-Israel conflict worries

Investors lost Rs 5.18 lakh crore due to the sharp fall in the stock market on Monday. Market sentiment was affected by increasing tensions in West Asia.

Today, stock markets around the world seem to be under pressure due to increasing tension between Israel and Iran. Its big impact has also been seen on the Indian stock market. Today (Monday) Sensex was showing a decline of more than 700 points in early trade while Nifty saw a weakness of 234 points. In such a situation, investors who held their positions on or before last Friday directly suffered a loss of Rs 8 lakh crore.

On April 12 (Friday), investors had invested Rs 399.67 lakh crore in the market. When there was a big decline this morning, this figure remained only Rs 391.46 lakh crore. In this way, investors had to suffer a loss of Rs 8.21 lakh crore in a single session. However, later till around 12 noon, some recovery was definitely seen in the market. Till the time of writing the news, Sensex had fallen by 467 points and Nifty by 132 points.

Among Nifty 50’s biggest falling stocks in the initial hours were Tata Motors, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, and SBI. By 12.10 pm the scene changed and the list of top 5 fallers included Shriram Finance, Tata Consumer Products, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Enterprises.

By the same time, there was a decline of more than one percent in Nifty IT and Nifty Bank. According to a report by Business Today, 70 shares made 52-week high today while 20 shares made 52-week low on BSE. Out of 3,330 stocks, only 415 were seen in the green, while 2,812 stocks were seen trading in the red. There were 103 stocks in which no movement was seen.

Lower price was imposed on shares of 208 companies in early trade on Monday. In contrast, the number of shares that were set up in the upper circuit was 100. BSE Midcap index recorded a decline of 560 points at 40,348. Small cap fell by 924 points and was recorded at the level of 44,947.
