The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted a smuggling racket that used to send Indian citizens to Russia under the guise of ‘better employment’ so that they could be forced to fight in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

According to officials, these smugglers were working as an organized network, luring Indian nationals for ‘highly paying jobs’ in Russia through social media platforms like YouTube etc. and through their local contacts/agents. Were staying.

A senior CBI officer said, “The trafficked Indian nationals were trained in combat roles and deployed against their will at forward bases in the war zone, placing their lives in grave danger.”

According to the CBI, it has been revealed that some of the victims were also seriously injured in the war zone. “On Wednesday, a case of human trafficking was registered against private visa consultancy firms, agents and others who were found engaged in smuggling Indian nationals to Russia in the guise of better employment and higher paying jobs,” the official said. This racket was spread in many states.”

The official said that the CBI is simultaneously conducting searches at about 13 places in Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Ambala, Chandigarh, Madurai and Chennai. “More than Rs 50 lakh in cash, incriminating documents and electronic gadgets like laptops, mobile phones and desktops have been seized so far. Search is underway,” he said.

“Some suspects have also been detained for questioning at various places. So far, around 35 cases of victims being sent abroad have been reported,” the official said.
