3 criminal laws replacing IPC, CrPc, Evidence Act to come into effect from July 1

Notification has been issued to implement three new criminal laws passed by the Central Government. Notification has been issued to implement these laws from July 1, 2024. These three new criminal laws will be applicable in place of the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Evidence Act.

These three laws had already received the approval of the President. All three bills became law. Now a notification has been issued to implement them. The Indian Judicial Code, the Indian Civil Code and the Indian Evidence Act will now replace the old Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Evidence Act.

In this new law, there is a provision for life imprisonment and even death penalty for heinous acts like mob lynching, gang rape of a minor. All three laws were approved by Parliament on December 21 last year. At the same time, President Draupadi Murmu had given his consent to this law on 25 December.

The opposition had raised questions on these laws

At the time when these bills were passed by the Parliament, the opposition had raised many serious questions. The government is calling these laws a departure from the mentality of slavery. So there are many questions and doubts in the minds of the opposition. The opposition feels that the provisions of the law may be misused.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, while referring to the loopholes in the law, said, ‘Who will be trapped, who will get how much punishment. There is no legal explanation for this. The government is trying to enter a dark era.

At the same time, MP Manish Tiwari said that ‘the government has made Parliament illegal. Dictatorial laws have been passed. These laws will turn the country into a ‘police state’.
