Hearing in Chandigarh Mayor dispute was held today in Punjab Haryana High Court. The court has issued a notice to the Chandigarh administration and sought a reply within three weeks. The case will be heard on 26 February.
Let us tell you that on Tuesday, elections were held for Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar captured the post of Mayor. Aam Aadmi Party accused BJP of rigging on this victory. After which this matter reached the court.
On the other hand, India Alliance candidate Kuldeep Kumar has demanded cancellation of the elections. For this he filed a petition in the High Court. The petition states that elections for the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation were held on January 30. During this, 8 out of 20 votes of India Alliance were declared invalid and BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar was declared victorious.
The petition said that during the counting of votes, presiding officer Anil Masih had tampered with the ballot papers. Kuldeep Kumar has appealed to challenge the 8 canceled votes and confiscate all the election material. Also, there has been a demand to conduct fresh elections in the presence of the officer appointed by the High Court.
Meanwhile, on the Chandigarh Mayor election dispute, Congress leader Pawan Bansal said that we have full faith in the court because our case is strong. But what happened on Tuesday was a dark day in history. Pawan Bansal said that he is going to file a complaint against the presiding officer.
