Three members of a businessman’s family died in a fire that broke out late on Monday night in a general store located in Kendua Bazaar of Dhanbad city. Six other people from the family and neighborhood were injured, who have been admitted to SNMCH, Dhanbad Medical College for treatment.

It was told that after closing the store at night, a fire broke out in the shop between 9:30 and 10 pm and within no time, the flames and smoke engulfed the entire house. The businessman’s entire family got trapped on the upper floor.
Store owner Subhash Gupta’s mother, 70-year-old Uma Devi, 32-year-old sister Priya Gupta and six-year-old daughter Soumya died due to suffocation due to smoke.
The shop is in a narrow street, so it took a lot of effort to control the fire. People nearby tried to extinguish the fire by throwing water, but were unsuccessful.
After about an hour, a big fire brigade vehicle arrived, but it could not enter the street. Later a small fire engine was called and only then the fire could be extinguished.
Apart from store owner Subhash Gupta, his father Ashok Gupta, wife Suman Gupta, son Shivansh, neighbors Virendra Chaurasia and Tushar Varnwal, who were injured while extinguishing the fire, have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
