A woman died and five others were seriously injured when a tourist bus fell into a forest gorge in this district of Karnataka in the early hours of Saturday.
According to the police, the incident occurred near Cheekanahalli cross in Gonibidu police station limits of Mudigere taluk when the driver lost control of the vehicle while taking a turn. The injured have been admitted to Hassan Government Hospital, where their condition is said to be critical. The deceased has been identified as Surekha (45) of Yelahanka, Bengaluru.
It is being told that a total of 48 tourists were traveling in the bus, which was going to the Hindu pilgrimage site Horanadu. Local people complain that many accidents have happened in this area before. He said that there has been a demand for a long time for blocking the dangerous stretch to prevent such incidents, but the authorities have turned a blind eye.
