If you type ‘India’ on Google Map’s search box, it now appears as “Country in South Asia” with an Indian flag digital code. Regardless of whether you use Google Maps in Hindi or English to search “India”, you get the same results that Google shows for “India”.
Amid ‘Bharat vs India’ debate, Google Maps users can use “Bharat” or “India” to find the official map of India.
In the Hindi version of Google Maps, Google shows “India”, on the other hand, if you are using the English language then the search results are shown for “India”. As far as text description is concerned, it is same in both Hindi and English languages. At a time when the central government is gradually using “Bharat” instead of “India” in official communications, Google is also doing its homework in this regard.
Not just Google Maps, in fact, across other products like Search, Translator, News, Google is giving users the option to use both “Bharat” and “India” to get the same results. Although there is no official statement from Google on this yet, a simple search reveals what changes Google might have made in the background.
Recently, for the first time, a proposal by the Railway Ministry to the Union Cabinet has reportedly removed “India” and replaced it with “Bharat” in its entire content. Especially for Google users in India, if you look carefully in Hindi language, Google is now preferring to use “Bharat” instead of “India”. Additionally, English to Hindi translations always show India in English and “Bharat” in Hindi. Google Translate also provides other nouns for “India” such as “Hindustan” and “Bharatvarsh”.
