‘Uttarakhand CM Dhami announces ‘Uniform Civil Code will be implemented this year itself’

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that it is our resolve to bring Uniform Civil Code as soon as possible. According to Dhami, once we get the UCC draft, we will take the process forward this year. We will implement the Uniform Citizens Bill in the state as soon as possible.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has once again given such a statement, which may heat up the politics of the state in the coming days. Actually, CM Dhami’s statement has come regarding the Uniform Civil Code. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that it is our resolve to bring Uniform Civil Code as soon as possible. According to Dhami, once we get the UCC draft, we will take the process forward this year. We will implement the Uniform Citizens Bill in the state at the earliest.

Speaking on UCC in Khatima, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that it is our resolve regarding UCC that we will bring it soon. This was also in our election manifesto. The work for which the people have elected us, we will fulfill our promises and we will soon bring the Uniform Civil Bill in the state. The Dhami government had formed a committee in March 2022 to prepare a Uniform Civil Code. This committee had sought their feedback and suggestions from the common people.

It is noteworthy that Dhami’s statement on this controversial issue has come at a time when the state is facing serious disasters caused by heavy rains and landslides. The rains this year have caused a lot of damage in the state. According to the assessment so far of the damage caused by the rain, the disaster has caused a huge loss of Rs 1,335 crore. In view of its compensation, there is a provision of Rs 323 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund. But the state government will send a proposal to the Center for assistance of more than one thousand crore rupees.

Due to heavy rains during the monsoon season in the state from June 15 till now, there has been loss of lives as well as large-scale damage to roads, agricultural land and public properties. Haridwar district has been the most affected in terms of damage. Out of the damage of Rs 1335 crore assessed so far, Rs 652 crore has been assessed in Haridwar alone. The government has started taking steps to compensate for the damage caused by the disaster. The Chief Minister had recently said that a request would be made to the Center for help.
